I recently sat down with my professor for a preliminary meeting concerning my integrated project. After 30 minutes I felt pretty good having tossed around ideas that I had been thinking through for a while now. There were many different avenues I could take and it only affirmed the fertile ground for further research that I was thinking my project might be able to contribute to. At the end of our time my professor asked me to fill in the following three statements.

I am studying _______.
Because I want to ______.
I am writing this paper for my reader to ______.

The thinking is the more precise I could get in answer these the closer I would get to my thesis. To be honest, I struggled in answering all of these. After several days of meditating on these statements, this is what I’ve come up.

I am studying the intersection between racial/cultural identity development and Asian American Theology.
Because I want to minister within the Asian American community.
I am writing this paper in order for my reader to learn how racial identity development in Asian Americans informs and radically transforms faith, theology and how we do ministry in the church.

It’s not much, but it’s something to start with. I am sure these sentences will go through many, many revisions over the coming few months.
